After doing several cleanups, I spoke with my mother about them. She was eager to help, inspired by my idea of recycling one ton of trash. I was not surprised; she has always been a kind woman who works hard.
As we were cleaning, I recalled events from my childhood—experiences I had with my mother. She was the reason we came to the United States so that she could work on the radio for Voice of America. At one point, she took on a second job to ensure we would have everything we needed. And yet, after a double shift, she’d still manage to clean up the house and cook dinner for us.
I feel blessed to have been raised by such a fantastic mother, and I think her kindness reflected in me. She taught me to be honest, work hard, and treat people well—all of which are cornerstones of Best You Best Me.
Cleaning the neighborhood with my mom was an insightful experience. We laughed, took pictures, and had a wonderful time. It was a unique way to spend time together and a memory I’ll always cherish.
